Week 8 Slideshare
Amazing. I found several French PPs that are so beautiful I can think of at least a million things to do with them. One of the most adorable ones is entitled <<L’arbre et l’enfant>>. It is about the destruction of one’s friend the tree. I can either have students read it and translate it or use the pictures to create a different story. That way all their effort is on the language and not on computer”stuff”. There is also one slideshare named <<Toutes les Femmes sont Belles>> and the music is very “cafe french” and easy to sing. I’ve listened to it now about 4 times and already know the song. My students would love this. They could learn the song or create a different song a different story line for the pictures, etc. At first I didn’t think slideshare was going to be valuable for me Glad I kept searching.
Week 6 Thing # 14 and 15
I did go into Voice Thread and create an account. I will probably use this on occasion for students. This type of tool is awesome for foreign language.
Storyboard is my next project for class. Students will create a video using the flip video camera and its software to mix it. The software that comes with the camera is super simple to use and I am going to be gone Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday so I thought this would be easier than movie maker. This is a movie about our school that students will be sending to a pen pal to introduce our school. They will create the audio as they create the video. Since they can stop and start often they should be able to work on prononciation. The software allows them to delete any frame they want so the best prononciation wins. Some have already started filming. I am very excited to see the results. On Friday when I am back we will have <<du lait et des madeleines>> to celebrate the premiers.
Week 7-Podcasting
Where do I begin???? The Spanish teacher and I began podcasting the week BEFORE school started. Actually I should correct myself and say we started trying to podcast the week before school started. It has been a long and arduous process, but WOW! Podcasts are an awesome tool for prononciation in a foreign language. It is also good for students to hear the lesson again at home if they weren’t confident about something like conjugating verbs. The unfortunate thing about podcasts is that our server won’t hold any more. I have a blog in blogmeister on which I put my podcasts for French I students. Having this class earlier would have been helpful because I was exhausted and in tears several times before figuring out the process. Now all is well, but initially it was frustrating.
Week 5 Thing #12
I did create a wiki and and even did a classroom wiki for students, but then I found blogmeister (thanks to Lori)and I prefer this venue for my students. I did search some of the Library wikis and they did seem useful and easy enough for students to use.
This week was really fun once I got to it. I created a motivational poster entitled “just a sittin and a thinkin…” using one of the summer pictures I took with my flip video camera. It’s a picture of my 2 granddaughters sitting on my patio in a wicker chair. I have included it in my photostream on flickr. Then I went to Montagr to see how you could create a mosaic of a using a tagged photo in flickr. You could use one of your own photos from some other application as well. I chose “flowers” as my category and it was unbelievable! As it loaded the flower mosaic pieces you could still click on already loaded squares and see the beautiful flower. What a kick. It would really be fun to use your own photos to create the mosaic, but I needed to move on. I will use idea #2 to create vocab cards with my next unit which is the classroom. Can’t wait.

Week #4 Thing #11
The above URL is a free comic book page that has a CC license and is thus free for me to use with my students. I will have them create in French a heading that will be a future story starter for a project they will produce. This is of great help to me to not have to design such a page myself, instead using someone else’s creative abilities for my benefit (and it’s all legal).
I also listened to STeve H’s video on the 2.0 Classroom. His comment about the novel being not for educational purposes was telling. As educators it appears it is once again time to take the leap (hasn’t happened since the invention of the TV)and move into the 21st century. Our classrooms are filled with technologically savvy students who know more about the digital world than I do. Maybe we can foster a learning environment where teachers and students maneuver through the pathways of learning together.
This class is going to be valuable because we are attempting to do 21st C. teaching in world language classes. I will present my first podcast in class tomorrow. I am sure it will be a grueling day, but after students learn the process, hopefully, it will be easier for everyone.
It’s a gorgeous Saturday (that’s the day we are not supposed to be doing school work) and I am sitting at the Briargate library working on my Web 2.0 class. What a drag! Actually, I have learned some amazing things, even things I can use in the classroom. I am excited about an RSS feed entitled French Pod Class. I accidently opened a French podcast while sitting here. Wouldn’t you know the volume on my was turned way up and yes, you guessed it, everyone turned and looked at me! YEA! I just nodded and said <<excusez-moi>> so they all think I am French. That was fun! I can’t wait to share this syndication with my student. This sight actually has books you can read in French in a chapter by chapter format. What a kick! Oh well, now it is on to Week 5. Don’t know if I can continue. I am hungry!
Au revoir,
Sue
